Sitting in the Gloucestershire valleys, a Grand 18th Century prospect house awaits…another beaut from the Calcot Collection!
Once again, I am forced to relax, un-wind and appreciate the countryside! Best get the Painwick’s famous “Painswickolada” delivered to my room whilst I munch on home made fruit pastels, marshmallows and those infamous gooey home-made cookies. Of course I’m also forced to run the roll top bath, dowse myself in the fluffier than fluffy towels and cake on the posh ‘Ren’ products.
Now to the food – always top of my agenda. That evening we dined in the restaurant, it’s like posh but cool, the menus claims to “shake up the ordinary.” Steal grey seats with mustard pillows and wholesome Beef Wellington washed down with a glass of red and to finish a raspberry soufflé. The evening felt like we were in our own living room but with a top chef cooking in your kitchen!
The next morning, the sun was shining so it made sense to enjoy the local area. Bit gutted it wasn’t raining as the array of coloured wellies on offer were far too appealing! Enjoying the immaculate gardens, you can borrow games to play on the lawn…fancy a game of Jenga? Or maybe a box of old fashioned classics is more your thing, such as Monopoly, Cluedo or Scrabble.
Dinner was so delicious last night so we made a fast decision and stayed for lunch. Dining alfresco on the terrace, we opted for Champagne Pâté with pickled grapes and some freshly baked focaccia, as well as a delicious gourmet Scotch Egg, perfectly paired with some sharp sweet pickles.
If you’re feeling energetic there are plenty of other activities available including the Gardens, walking, horse riding, golf, clay pigeon shooting, boating, and segways but for the time being; we are too relaxed, instead sticking to the Pâté and Painswickolada and enjoying the beautifully trimmed bushes!
