The Black Friar
You can hire any of the spaces in Salford pub the Black Friar but the newest and most exciting private dining experience is a gorgeous intimate space on the top floor of the pub called The Choir’s Loft. The space seats up to 16 people and has its own private bathroom. It’s the perfect hideaway for a special get together. If you need a slightly bigger space for a seated meal, the Sanctuary downstairs seats up to 24. All of these spaces can be hired for free on weekdays as long as you buy lunch but get in touch if you have other times in mind.

Manchester’s most soulful bar and music venue, Blues Kitchen can get a little intense when it’s packed at weekends. Housed within the beautiful Grade II listed Elliot House on Deansgate (which also happens to offer wedding and event space packages), Gusto is a classic Italian restaurant brand born in Cheshire with branches across the UK now. It has a beautiful private dining room with space for 16 guests. The space has large windows that let in natural light on one side and a smoked glass wall on the other side that looks into the restaurant. Simon Shaw’s Middle Eastern inspired restaurant is packed with curios from his personal lock up, collected over years of travelling the world. Ladies who lunch favourite The Ivy has three opulently decorated private dining rooms for hire. The Geisha Room is a gold and pink palace with a pink onyx bar, gold leaf ceiling, and crushed velvet chairs in both gold and pink. Striking Japanese themed artworks hang on the walls and there are floor to ceiling mirrors to help you get selfie-ready. There are canapé, tasting and sharing menus available in Geisha, as well as cocktails, wine and other beverages. The Dalton Room features a marble tiled floor and hanging gilt leaf pendants with vintage furniture, drapes and chandeliers and can be booked for breakfast, lunch or dinner for up to 20 guests. Kitten is an upmarket Japanese izakaya-inspired restaurant at the foot of one of the glittering skyscrapers at Deansgate Square. It’s a beautifully decorated dining space in soft peaches and natural tones with lots of bamboo and natural fibres and a huge central Japanese pine tree. Separated from the main public dining area but a folding bamboo screen, the private dining room seats 20-40 depending on whether you want a Long boardroom style table or separate restaurant-style seating for your event. The menu here is largely sushi and sashimi based with some show-stopping dishes like whole sea bass.

Gordon Ramsay’s Lucky Cat in the former Jamie’s Italian space is one of the newest restaurants in Manchester. It has a huge main dining area with high ceilings and architectural features that hark back to its former life as a bank. In the basement, there is a former bank vault complete with metal deposit boxes in the walls which now serves as a private dining room. There is a long, sleek, glass topped table that seats up to 12 on plush, metallic printed chairs and colourful mood lighting. Two other private dining rooms upstairs have more of a classic feel with round tables, wooden panelled walls and large windows. These sit up to eight. You can also hire the whole restaurant if you so wish.

Want all the atmosphere, food and drink of the bustling Refuge restaurant at the Kimpton hotel but with a bit more privacy? Manchester contemporary Chinese restaurant Tattu’s private dining room is called The Parlour and it has its own entrance, bar and toilets. One-way glass offers complete privacy for the dining room with a view into the main restaurant.
