As the sun hits the shores of our fair city I find myself in Spinningfields gravitating towards what's sure to be a unique dining experience.

Tattu have launched their S/S Menu 2018 and calling rank on who reviews it sees me walking through the doors at 7pm on a Thursday evening with the sole purpose of trying as much of the food as I can.

As with all good summer meals we started with cocktails. Tattu have gone seriously next level with the cocktail concepts and I’m going to state right off the bat that my photos did not do them justice, so we’ve used ones shot my someone better than me. These truly are a work of art and the taste only serves to emphasise the sheer quality of workmanship that has gone into each and every one.

Chilli Sea Bass Dumplings to start with alongside Chicken Truffle Shumai with fresh truffle. A couple of dipping sauces that complemented beautifully and to my surprise it was the porcini that won out.

Small plates next and strict recommendation of our host we went with the BBQ Sampler (honey glazed duck, short rib, pork belly and Iberico) and boy was he right. Fantastic depth of flavour with not only the Iberico but the duck & honey glaze was top draw.

Next round of cocktails and these things just bring a smile to the face. The stand out drink, which I will take a guess at being the new best seller by a country mile, is the Cherry Negroni. It comes with its very own mini blossom tree.

The attention to detail is like something I’ve never seen. A close contender however has to be the Flight of the Phoenix (white rum, poppy and apple) with it’s very own origami phoenix in flight.

Main courses and again on server recommendation we opt for Honey Roasted Chilean Sea Bass with Enoki mushroom fritter and chilli which has to be up there for me as a top 10 summer dish.

My date for the evening ordered the Kung Pao Chicken with chilli, onion and ginger, the dish did pack a small punch and for chilli lovers like us that was absolutely perfect.

A summer evening meal wouldn’t be complete without dessert, and as always Tattu have delivered a combination of theatrical flare with heavily considered poise. Dessert Wontons with chocolate, Szechuan strawberry and banana caramel became almost our dessert starter as we shared them and followed closely by the Mango and Honey Pudding with pineapple, lychee and oat cookie.

Overall the new Tattu summer menu delivers not only the quality we’ve come to expect from one of Manchester’s finest restaurants, it brings so much more.

Owner Adam Jones told me “Competition is always increasing in Manchester and as such we (Tattu) need to go that step further with every new change” – I’m pleased to report Adam and the team have achieved just that, and it seriously shows.
