To coincide with The Hacienda’s 40th birthday celebrations this year, the BBC has commissioned a documentary that will combine rare and unseen archive footage with first-hand testimony from those involved during the iconic club’s heyday.

To tell the story of how the famed nightclub transformed the UK’s music scene, the documentary will dive into the misfits that filtered through its doors, alongside the running of the club and the DJs at the heart of it all.

The documentary will air on BBC Two, though a broadcast date is yet to be confirmed.

It has also been announced this week that a massive rave will take place in the car park of the former club.

Now a block of apartments, the iconic site on Whitworth Street West will be once again transformed into a sweat-soaked den, complete with legendary DJs and freaky dancers old and new – hungry for a taste of the 90s.

Letters have been sent out to residents about the plans which will see organisers of the party arrange for parking of their cars off-site so that the party can go ahead on Saturday 21st May. It will mark 40 years to the day that the nightclub first opened its doors back in May 1982!

Organised by Peter Hook, Paul Fletcher, James Masters and Aaron Mellor, all-important figureheads of the original club, the celebration is set to be an unmissable evening of nostalgia!

Guests at the 30th-anniversary event included the likes of Bez and original Haçienda DJs like Graeme Park, Jon DaSilva and Hewan Clarke.

While a guest list is yet to be confirmed for this year’s event, we can presume many famous faces will be in attendance.
