Culture Clash #3: Mad Professor Live Dub | 2nd August | Band On The Wall
A disciple of Lee “Scratch” Perry, Mad Professor was one of the leading producers in dub reggae’s second generation. His Dub Me Crazy albums helped dub make the transition into the digital age, when electronic productions started to take over mainstream reggae in the ’80s. He’ll be heading to Band on the Wall this coming Friday 2nd.
Lime Cordiale | 2nd August | Night People
The Australian pop rock sibling duo are midway through their European tour, 2019 has been a massive year for them, they have been everyone’s must see this year the other side of the world, the Leimbach brothers are bringing a 5 piece band with them.
Pyramids | 9th August | Peer Hat
Sibling Duo Pyramids have recently recorded 3 new tracks which they are launching at the Peer hat, they have recently been getting air time on Radio 6 and garnered praise from the likes of Marc Riley and Everything Everything front man Jonathan Higg. They have invited some of their favourite bands to play from 7 onwards with a club night in the basement after. Tickets are only £5, get yourself there.
Christeene | 10th August | White Hotel
Where to start, Christeene the alter ego of Paul Soileau has been described as ‘a drag terrorist’, ‘a mix between Alice Cooper and hedwig’, ‘electronic buffet of emotion’ and ‘Beyonce on bath salts’. The heavy underground electronica show will be something out of your nightmares and has found its perfect match in The White Hotel. Give her track ‘Fix my Dick’, a listen full volume for a taste of her music.
Prophets of Rage | 13th August | Manchester Academy
The legendary super group that is Prophets of Rage host an evening at the surprisingly smaller venue of Academy. The band have sold out shows across the world and partnered up with activists and social justice groups to dante a large portion of proceeds to those in need. Their music fluctuates perfectly across rock and Hip-Hop, a night not to be missed. Tickets are £50, but well worth is to see them at Manchester’s Academy, link to tickets here.
OVAL | 14th August | Soup Kitchen
Multi-award-winning electronic music innovator Markus Popp aka Oval, one of the most prolific, influential forces in contemporary electronic music, with over twenty years of record making behind him, he is nn his fifth record since returning in 2010, Markus Popp shows are impressive, futuristic post-rock vignettes and now abstract bangers with a twist. Well worth a £13 ticket to his gig at Soup kitchen this month.
Corella | 16th August | Deaf Institute

Smif-N-Wessun + More Bounce DJs | 22nd August | Band On The Wall
Smif-N-Wessun first hit the scene in 1994 after releasing “Bucktown / Let’s Git It On”. Over the years they’ve weaved their own path in music after returning in 2013 with “Born and Raised”. They will be heading out on tour this month with shows in Manchester, Southampton and Blackpool. Catch them at Band on The Wall this August.
Emeli Sande | 24th August | Mayfield Depot
Soul singer Emeli Sandé has joined the bill at Manchester Pride Live over the August bank holiday weekend Sandé’s Pride set comes just weeks before her third album Real Life is released on September 13, and her UK tour that will follow in November. Festival-goers can look forward to new material as well as hits including Beneath Your Beautiful, Read All About It and Heaven. There are tickets still available.
Ariana Grande | 25th August | Mayfield Depot
Ariana Grande is back in Manchester, headlining this years Manchester Pride festival taking place over this bank holiday weekend in the new Mayfield Depot venue. She will be joined on the Sunday with the likes of Pixie Lott, Faithless [DJ set] and many more. Check the link below for tickets. Ticket holders can choose either a Rainbow Pass, priced at £70.95 for the weekend (ticket plus booking fee) or £37.95 for the day, which gives them entry to Manchester Pride Live and unlimited access to the activities in the Village, or just a Gay Village Gathering ticket, which costs £16.50 for the weekend or £11 for a day.
Move D | 25th August | Hidden
The annual hidden all day and all night party runs again this upcoming bank holiday. The club opens up its courtyard for a 12 hour session with Move D headlining. There are special guests still to be announced so keep your eyes peeled for announcements, its second release is at £10 currently and a night time only ticket is just £7.50.
Machine Gun Kelly | 27th August | Ritz
Cleveland rapper MGK is touring newly release ‘Hotel Diablo’ his 5th studio album. Arguably more well known for his beef with Eminem that was rekindled lately, his music is much more diluted, he’s been constantly releasing tracks at the top 10 of the billboards 100. Were still team Eminem but a huge name for the Ritz nonetheless. Its sold out this one unfortunately, however you can join the fan-to-fan resale ticket list on this link.
PinkSweat$ | 29th August | Deaf Institute
Pink Sweat$ is an artist/songwriter/producer from Philadelphia, PA. Pink’s music is rooted in R&B and Soul, stripping back the typical genre-specific production to showcase melodic intricacy and lyrical prowess. He began making music at the age of 19 as a demo vocalist, and soon after found himself working at the legendary Sigma Sounds Studios where he began his career as a songwriter. After 7 years of working behind the scenes, Pink Sweat$ launched as a solo artist in July of 2018. The rapid rise of his debut EP ‘Volume 1’ has earned him recognition from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard and Fader.

Psych Fest | 30 August | Various
If you’re looking for something a bit weird and wonderful in the form of live bands this bank holiday weekend, look no further than the city centre, multi-venue Manchester Psych Fest. Taking place at some of Manchester’s finest gig venues (O2 Ritz, Gorilla & Yes) the event pulls in big crowds from the psychedelic community. This year we have Aussie headliner Courtney Barnett, with her down to earth and witty lyricsm. After something a bit heavier or stranger? Try to catch Two bands that have powered their way through 2019 so far with rave reviews – Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (yes, really) and Snapped Ankles. Two popular English bands also provide a big pull – Temples and also the all-female band Goat Girl, whilst up and coming bands such as Penelope Isles and Working Men’s Club also provide support. If you prefer things a bit out of the ordinary then this is the place to be August Bank Holiday.
