Off with Their Heads presents … MEN feat JD Samson of Le Tigre
Support comes from Bonjay (Toronto), plus local acts Organ Freeman and the Niallist
Wednesday 8th June: 7.30pm: Islington Mill

Off with Their Heads is back. The latest project to come out of Islington Mill is a celebration of the revolutionary spirit the UK is currently experiencing, what with student cuts, arts cuts and the reprisal of all things good; needless to say tensions are high and we all need a bit of a party.

So far we have held three events in the series. 2 parties – the first themed around the fool, the second on the day of the Royal Wedding where we broke a world record for the longest wedding train made of carrier bags, which stretched out at around 1.5k. We have also played host to one of Canada’s most exciting exports and latest signing to Domino records earlier in the year, Austra. All of these events have encapsulated a feeling of chaos, freedom, hedonism and a touch of anarchy.

Which brings us nicely to the latest in this series, Off with Their Heads presents MEN. JD Samson formerly of Le Tigre, the talented and moustachio-ed artist is the star behind this hugely acclaimed queer electro act. The Brooklyn-based band/performance collective share radical vibes and the sound of fun as they rinse their new LP, Talk About Body (IAMSOUND) in this, their only Manchester performance this year and in such an intimate setting as well. To complement this arthouse collective we have as main support, Bonjay.

Bonjay, born in a basement at Ottawa’s legendary disorganised parties, their skills have featured on remixes for the likes of Mad Decent, Ninjatune and Ghetto Arc (XL Recordings). Bass, soul, dancehall innovation, indie sentiments, and R&B hooks and more. “This is next-level club music, with texture and depth to spare.”” — Montreal Gazette.

Alongside these two international acts we will be welcoming on stage two local acts that have both performed at Off with Their Heads previously. Namely our ‘houseband’ Organ Freeman who as well as playing their own material cover the likes of Lady Gaga through to Green Day in their own unique way whilst epitomizing the word ‘party’. Also joining them will be The Niallist, a regular within the Menergy collective in Scotland his performances are garnering a bit of a legendary buzz about them, from posing as a preist to breaking keyboards whilst reinvigorating the 90’s in his own peculiar way.

And to complete the line up and gel it all together will be two DJ cartels, firstly the queer scouse disco collective, Chew Disco will be on hand alongside the Queers of Noize in this their first gig together since 2005. All this on a Wednesday evening for a mere £6.

Tickets available on Skiddle, Ticketline and physically at Fopp and Islington Mill itself. Full Line up: MEN, Bonjay, Organ Freeman, The Nialist and DJ collectives Chew Disco and the Queers of Noize.
