A new independent record label is launching in Manchester this weekend, bringing a slew of local talent to two of the city’s finest spots for dancing and debauchery.
Mas O Menos has been established by DJ and producer Levi Love, with the intention of melding noises from the Cottonopolis electronic scene with sounds from South Africa and beyond. The throw-down kicks off at Eastern Bloc Records from 7PM, before heading across Stephenson Square to Soup Kitchen for a sweaty one at 11PM.
In addition to the imprint bossman, Reform Radio’s DJ SNO, roster artists MAKO MCR and Metrodome, Refuge Resident Darryl Marsden, and Liverpool live outfit Heavy Lemo are all set to play.
“Mas O Menos is a label that has grown from nothing but love and a passion for music,” said Love. “When I heard ‘Applebush’ in Mako MCR’s basement flat, the tune transported me emotionally to the time when South Africa was gripped by mid-tempo grooves.
“Eastern Bloc and Soup Kitchen are two fundamental parts of Manchester’s electronic music scene, so we couldn’t have found better hosts for our label launch. This is a key opportunity to showcase all that is good about the city’s underground community, which is why we have chosen rising stars for this project.”
