The mid-week party that pulls in the most unusual selection of DJ's in Manchester

The only place you can find Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham spinning his personal vinyl collection one week, and Maxine Peake the next.

Welcome to One Deck Wednesday’s at Electrik. The idea is simple. Each and every week you’ll find some of the finest record collectors and crate diggers playing a selection of music from their own record collection with no mixing, headphones, scratching or beat juggling. It’s strictly just about the music.

The guests are free to play whatever they like, so each night you’re treated to something different, usually taking in a wide range of influences and genres. The emphasis is on the music selection, delving into the personal vinyl collections of the DJ and taking a nostalgic trip through the history of many of music’s biggest movements.

Wednesday’s at Electrik therefore have become a haven for those serious about music, with a solid stellar roster of residents each week including Andrea Trout, SNO, James Pomfret & Lord Chester alongside a monthly selection of special guests which in the past have included the likes of Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh and actor Maxine Peake.

What you end up with is a very eclectic range of genres, mostly on the same night. As many as 20 different categories of music can be played – you really don’t know what’s coming next – and that’s the beauty of it.

Electrik are super proud of what they’ve achieved with One Deck Wednesdays and they’ve recently announced more of their upcoming monthly special guests. March will see American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist B.C. Camplight hit the decks while Cold Feet actor John Thomson will take the reins in April.

May will see ex Scotland, Everton & Chelsea football player Pat Nevin head down, and word on the street is that he has a brilliant collection of thousands of albums and seven-inches made up from his many years as a DJ in Glasgow and London.

Keep an eye out for future announcements and make sure you get yourself down to Chorlton on the next convenient Wednesday.
