From smooth to jacking, tomorrow night one of Manchester’s more forward thinking club nights opens 2013 with a distinctly fresh line up.
Content has been responsible for some truly impressive four four bookings since inception, with the likes of Kenny Larkin, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Doc Martin, DJ Bone, Kerri Chandler, and Kevin Saunderson all appearing, to name but a few. As such it’s no surprise the next event- at Joshua Brooks on Friday 22nd February- boasts two headliners that are likely to attract plenty of people, albeit the pair in question are decidedly younger than those bona-fide heroes.
Nicholas, for example, is something of a rising star, with his reputation for producing soulful but solid, disco tinged house sounds growing at a notable rate for a couple of years now. Elements of jazz can be heard in there too, although there’s always enough purpose to ensure fans of tougher tunes can find themselves getting involved. With that in mind, the idea of an early-ish live set from this particular patron of beats is rather tempting.
Top of the bill and our biggest recommendation, though, has to be Jordan Peak, hence his name appearing, literally, at the top of the bill. With a back catalogue of work for imprints like One Records, Robsoul, 2020:Vision, and Tsuba, his understanding of what noises make people dance is already evident, whilst deft DJing skills ensure constant worldwide bookings. Here’s hoping for a few deep and dirty locked grooves then, if you know what we mean. Full details below the next clip.
