Hitting the charts in 1978, Parallel Lines was Blondie’s 3rd studio album and has since become a modern classic. A quick peek at the back of the sleeve would uncover some of their biggest hits including ‘One Way or Another’, ‘Sunday Girl’ and ‘Heart of Glass’.
Of course, being the most attractive woman in the world didn’t hinder Debbie Harry’s musical abilities but she was well-known to be “very moody” during the album’s recording. The album’s producer Mike Chapman also found the rest of the band quite difficult to work with, with them often turning up stoned, and generally not being very good at playing their instruments.
He managed to work some form of musical magic though because the end product is a beauty – and that one album that most people have in some form or another in their house.
So Friday 5th October see The Awful Truth celebrate the album and songs with a series of live musical acts, playing hits from the album as well as original stuff that’s been inspired by its post-punk pop influence. The live music will then be followed by a New Wave Disco into the early hours.
