Let the battle commence. Red Bull Music Academy unveils the four challengers going head-to-head for Red Bull Culture Clash in Manchester on Thursday 10th March. The heaviest of hitters will grace Old Granada Studios for a night of unparalleled bass and clash throw downs, with just one crowned champion.
A Guy Called Gerald presents Basstronic will see the Manchester house and jungle pioneer revisit his sound system history of building dub and reggae sound systems growing up in Moss Side. Still pushing his sound forward, A Guy Called Gerald will be joined by Navigator and Kusta.
First assembled in 2008, Manchester’s Dub Smugglers have spent the last eight years adapting and evolving their rig, staking their claim to be the city’s finest reggae and dub crew.
Grime, jungle and hip hop mash up collective LEVELZ are a reflection of their home city’s bubbling creativity and unique mythology, combining dynamite MCing with a respect for musicianship.
A true supergroup assembled specially for Red Bull Culture Clash, Made In Manchester assembles DJs and MCs from the city’s drum’n’bass and jungle scene stretching right back to the genre’s birth in the mid-’90s.
Host MC Dynamite is no stranger to this musical city: “I’m a product of clash culture, I grew up listening to Jaro Vs Travellers, Saxon vs Coxon, King Jammys vs….the list goes on. Manchester is a city I’ve performed in many times over the years, from the Lighthouse to the Warehouse project. It’s an honour and a privilege to be involved in what will be one of the city’s biggest events.”
Red Bull Culture Clash in Manchester is preceded by a stop in Bristol on Friday 4th March where four different crews will battle it out at The Passenger Shed. These two unmissable shows will set the pace for the clash’s biggest instalment yet, in London on Friday 17th June at the capital’s ExCel.
With its roots in Jamaican soundclash culture, Red Bull Culture Clash sees competing collectives go head-to-head over four rounds, utilising their biggest tunes, freshly cut dubs, special guests, performances and surprises to win over the crowd and walk away as champion.
