McCall’s Organic
Starting off with Northern Quarter’s McCall’s Organics, the store in the city centre offers organic fruit and vegetables, alongside tinned goods, dried foods, and refillable toiletries such as washing up liquid, fabric conditioner and toilet cleaner. They also deliver their veg boxes, which are filled with seasonal, organic fresh produce, straight to your door offering a chance for you to get creative in the kitchen at home.

Deli Lama Wholefood Shop and Cafe
Salford’s new(ish) sustainable food store, Deli Lama has everything you need to reduce your carbon footprint at home. From dried goods to vegan cheeses and refillable cleaning products, the store is a great place to start if you want to reduce your plastic waste. Aside from the sustainable store, Deli Lama is also a cafe that serves teas, coffees and homemade vegan/vegetarian food from jerk curries to paninis, salads and pasties.

The Good Life
Based in Heaton Mersey and now Stockport, The Good Life is an incredible shop that champions sustainable shopping and living. Its mission is to inspire people to make small life changes that will, in turn, make huge changes to the planet – you can buy everything from reusable sanitary pads to handmade soaps and fresh, locally baked bread.

Unicorn Grocery
Unicorn Grocery in Chorlton is a whole foods store offering organic, locally sourced fruit and vegetables alongside fair trade deli products. It’s probably Manchester’s largest sustainable supermarket, and the range of food available here is second to none. They’ve even got the biggest selection of plant-based milks in the North and an array of great natural and organic beers, wines and spirits.

The Eighth Day Shop and Cafe
Located just next to Manchester Met University, Eighth Day has served veggies, vegans and the planet conscious since the early 60s. The cafe serves a menu of tasty plant-based meals that are hearty, healthy and homemade and the food on offer differs every day due to the craftsmanship of their expert chefs! You can also grab a good range of groceries at the store that have a big focus on sustainability.

Village Greens
Village Greens is a friendly, local community store in Prestwich offering people a wide range of delectable, locally sourced and organic ingredients. It aims to change the way its customers shop, helping them to lead happy, healthy and sustainable lives. The store is community owned, and run by a lovely bunch of staff and volunteers who connect with local businesses and suppliers to provide a little more than what you can get in your regular big chain supermarket.

Lentils and Lather
Sustainable shopping based on Burton Road and in Marple, Lentils and Lather is an eco-friendly and ethical store eliminating pointless plastic from everyday items such as food, drinks, household goods and personal care products. A large part of the store is dedicated to supplying bulk foods, bathroom products and household cleaning liquids, but it also goes beyond this offering items such as fresh breads, ethically sourced coffee, vegan chocolate and dental care products.

Bernie’s Grocery Store
Serving organic fruit and veg, alongside a selection of sandwiches, cheese, wine and freshly baked treats, Bernie’s – owned by Will France – has gained its expertise from Manc institutions including Pollen and Wolfhouse. The independent store specialises in organic food and drink from local suppliers and sustainable businesses AND you can even get Patel’s freshly baked Indian pies at the store, too.
