The 10-week participant-led course, which focuses on creativity and resourcefulness with textiles, is for adults facing mental health challenges.

During the course, the groups will work on a range of crafts such as; fabric printing, applique, sewing machines techniques, making dolls clothes, patchwork, clothes upcycling, visible mending and more!

Stitched Up began as a direct response to the fast fashion industry and its detrimental affect on workers. The organisation currently runs a sustainable clothing hub in Stretford Mall – a space for crafters, makers and tinkerers, providing an alternative to the chain stores and empty shops of your average British high street.

They also bring their workshops, events and projects to locations across Greater Manchester, an example being their Bee Well Crafternoons.

Sarah Revington, Stitched Up Co-Director and one of the course facilitators said: “I really love facilitating the Bee Well Crafternoons course – it’s great to see our participants relax and grow in confidence with each session. It’s always especially rewarding when the group really bond and continue to support one another out in their communities after the course ends.”

A previous participant of the course said: “I loved the course so much and it has really helped my mental wellbeing. Learning to knit has really given me a renewed love for craft and I’m feeling more positive and inspired than I have in years. It has helped me to switch off and given me a hobby/something to do outside of parenting. Thank you so much!”

The course moved online during the early stages of the pandemic, and this is now the first time the classes can go ahead again face to face!

The courses will take place in two different locations; Gorton Monastery (Thursdays, starting on 3rd March) and at Chorlton Scouts Hut (Wednesdays, starting on 2nd March), and run from 1pm-3:30pm for 10 weeks.

There is no cost to attending the course but places are limited, so participants do need to register by contacting Stitched Up.
