As a celebration of the creativity and diversity of the city, Manchester Day started in 2010 and has now become one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar. It allows communities to celebrate pride in our amazing city, while also showing the world just what makes Manchester so unique.
Last year over 60,000 people were entertained in the streets as the huge parade snaked its way through the city. Featuring over 2000 performers, as well as amazing structures, vibrant costumes, music and plenty of waving – the parade is the perfect platform in which to advertise the city and all it has achieved and aims to strive for in the future.
The parade will take place from 1pm, starting on Liverpool Rd and heading towards Exchange Square. Over a mile long, the parade should take about an hour and will be made up of over 100 Manchester charities, community groups and companies hoping to get everyone into the festival spirit. The theme for this year is ‘Abracadabra!’ so expect plenty of ‘magic’ related things to happen – like that bendy wand trick that you would practise at school with a pencil, or the ‘detaching thumb’.
As well as the Parade, the good people of this fair city can also expect the city’s various Squares to be populated by performances, decorations, workshops and installations. There will also be a large array of food and drink vendors peddling their food – arranged by GRUB, including Chaat Cart, Fat Annies and everyone’s favourite; Big Grillie Style.
So on Sunday 18th June, from 12pm ’til 6pm, the city centre is the place to be – get out and celebrate the best city in the world – see you there!
