When A Tavola called Reddish home it built an enviable reputation as one of the finest Sicilian restaurants in the city. Relocating to the deep south of Greater Manchester’s sprawl, then hopping over a dry stone wall and into the lush surrounds of New Mills, the same exacting standards have been maintained now the eatery has debased to the country. Meanwhile, the dining room views have been upgraded, and now offer glimpses of a bonafide UK beauty spot in the surrounding hills that lead to the Peak District.

Housed in a charming and historic stone built pub, today A Tavola continues to do what it has always done so well, inviting guests to “come to the table” (a literal translation of the name itself) and “mancia, vivi e futtitinni”: eat, drink and forget all your worries. Using only the freshest seasonal ingredients, where possible sourced from the local area with plenty of specialist produce also shipped directly from the old country, co-owner Alessio celebrates the flavours of his home town, Palermo, and in doing so offers one of the most authentic Mediterranean dining experiences you’ll have all year.

All pasta is made in house, as is the gelato, although let’s leave dessert for later. A Tavola takes an enormous amount of pride in its unique menu, and specials are ever-changing. Dishes of note include slow cooked ragu and stews, mouthwatering cuts of meat and a range of seafood options, with the menu running to an impressive length considering the impeccable quality of what’s being served. All dietary needs are catered for, and the same can be said for drinks, with an extensive wine list paying tribute to Sicily’s finest independent vineyards, and a large selection of imported soft drinks for those that need to hit the rural roads after dinner.
