Castlefield is one of central Manchester’s heritage hotspots — birthplace of the industrial revolution, the world’s first industrial canal, canal warehouse, and passenger rail journey, among other things. The district is also known for its recreation of an original Roman-era fort, Mamucium, from which our city takes its name. More recently, the historic neighbourhood has reinvented itself as a hospitality haven, and Barça Bar, opened by none-other than Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall, has been a firm fixture of the local scene since 1996.

Situated in the heart of Castlefield, Barça occupies an enviable position on the canal-side. So one of the first things you’ll notice is the stunning decked terrace — one of the largest outdoor eating and drinking spots in town — which comes alive during warmer months. The more recent addition of a separate bar specifically for those al fresco afternoons and evenings has only added to allure. A lush oasis of natural greens and brown woods that feels far removed from the urban sprawl beyond, nevertheless you’re still in easy walking distance of Deansgate’s railway, bus and tram links, and Cornbrook Metrolink.

As for the bar itself, you’ll find an extensive list of cocktails, solid range of draught beers and ciders, alongside bottles, and a great choice of wines by both the bottle and glass to pick from. And if you’re feeling hungry, a limited but well thought-through food menu is on offer Tuesday to Sunday from 12PM onwards. Barça also has a number of separate function rooms for hire, which makes it an ideal venue for corporate functions, birthdays, engagements, hen and stag parties, anniversaries, or full wedding receptions.
