Starting out in Manchester-proper, the Cocoa Tree team continue to run a successful store on Wilbraham Road, in the heart of charming Chorlton. In 2023, the family behind the brand decided to open a second premises here in Ramsbottom, and the response speaks volumes. Located in a historic stone terrace, the shop and cafe has become a bonafide institution, firmly establishing itself in arguably Bury’s prettiest — and certainly its food-y-est — village.
Founded on one central ethos — “we love chocolate, and we know you do too,” from the moment you walk through the door you can smell the sweet treats, warm drinks, cakes and snacks, with beautifully displayed products catching your eye in every direction. All crafted with care and attention, by hand, of course. The staff also treat customers in the same way, and are only too pleased to talk through options, flavours and tastes to make sure people get exactly what they want.
“Chocolate is a symbol of love, sharing and kindness, and that’s why we put a lot of love into what we do,” the team tell us. After a moment watching them work, it’s clear these are not empty words. Trying to list everything on offer would take time, but examples of Cocoa Tree’s finest would include Luxury Bon Bons, Caramelised Hazelnut Shard, Belgian Milk Chocolate Buttons, Belgian Chocolate Covered Golden HoneyComb Nuggets, Dark Chocolate Bars and Hand Crafted Selection Boxes. Aesthetically stunning — a trademark ‘colour splatter’ adorns many lines — you can ask for personalisations to make things extra special. All chocolates are gluten free and vegetarian, and diary free and vegan options are often available, too. Cakes and truffles can also be enjoyed inside, where you’ll find amazing hot chocolate and fresh coffees being served, including a mocha which is truly something to treasure and behold.
