This is where it all began. While some will know Don Tacos for its super successful Manchester sites, with one in the thick of the action on Piccadilly Gardens, and another among the throngs of diners eating out around the Curry Mile, the company started out here in Bolton, and has been serving the town incredible Mexican food since 2016. Built on the basis of doing things properly — using authentic ingredients brought over from Central America — the brand essentially introduced locals to this cuisine and never looked back.
Everything here is made fresh but designed for convenience. Trying to list firm favourites isn’t easy, as there are so many, but popular options include the Chipotle or Habanero Lamb Chops, Tinga de Res — three corn tacos with slow-cooked beef, freshly prepared with chipotle and grilled onions — and trademark Birria Tacos, which come covered in cheese, spring onion and coriander, crisped to perfection and available with beef, lamb or chicken, depending on your preference.
We also love the Birria Quesadillas, a large 10” tortilla dipped in the namesake sauce — and these come in medium, hot, or, if you’re feeling brave, extra hot varieties. Naked Burritos are much as they sound, without tortilla, and the Fully Loaded Pollo Asade Burrito combines tender poultry, rice, beans, salad and soured cream, with added cheese. Sides are every bit the equal to Don Tacos’ mains, and choices range from Elote, which might be the best corn on the cob imaginable, to heavily loaded Nachos, Red Rice and Frijoles (beans). A plant-based menu features spicy vegan wings and signature salad (with a kick), and whatever you’re eating the salsa is a must — there’s a range to go at and we love them all. Finally, what about a Churro to finish? Wash the lot down with a drink — beer or other — imported straight from Mexico, and it’s hard to find fault.
