To say Levenshulme has changed dramatically since the turn of the 21st Century would be putting it rather mildly. For many years now, this south central Manchester suburb strung down both sides of the busy Stockport Road-A6 corridor has been home to a thriving food, drink and nightlife scene that takes in everything from after dark markets to cutting edge club events. One of the most prominent additions to this is undoubtedly Nordie, an independently-owned, neighbourhood style hangout in the thick of things round these parts.

Opening in 2019 with a focus on excellent drinks and a welcoming atmosphere, those two elements remain front and centre but the overall offering has expanded. First, though, a little about the place itself. A mint-green and creme colour scheme, including bar back, means the word ‘fresh’ immediately springs to mind the moment you walk in the door. Unmarked draught pumps make it clear tap beers switch up on a regular basis, and often showcase the very best for a world-acclaimed Manchester craft brewing scene. Fear not if hops aren’t your tipple, though, there’s plenty more besides.

House cocktails are particularly popular, and it doesn’t take long perusing the options to understand why. Creations like Tiger Balm (Golden Rum, Lime, Syrup, Frethna Branca) and the Basil Sour (Tequila, Ancho Reyes, Mango Syrup, Lime, Cynar) show there’s nothing by numbers happening here, with the wine cellar arguing a similar point. Then there’s the food, which ranges from staples like the full breakfast (including vegan and vegetarian iterations), to far less common plates such as BBQ Aubergine and Oyster Mushroom, Hispi Cabbage, and Mutton Flatbread. Ready for customers six days a week, Nordie also has a great events calendar featuring everything from quizzes to DJ-led party nights, and during warmer months the huge outdoor terrace comes into its own.
