Seven Bro7hers Middlewood Locks describe themselves as “the gateway brewery to craft beer”, and it’s easy to see where they’re coming from. Growing up with seven siblings, as the founding owners did, is likely to instil a no-nonsense mindset, and that’s precisely what this Manchester institution is all about. Everything right down to the branding is uncomplicated, allowing the beer itself to do the lion’s share of the talking. A wise approach given how good the brews here are.
The formula has worked incredibly well so far, hence the brand finding a way into the common conscious on a national level, building an incredible reputation, while the company has established a number of beer houses at prime locations around its hometown. One of those is Middlewood Locks. A hair’s breadth from Factory International, MOSI, and a slew of other landmarks around Spinningfields and Deansgate, this micro-district sits on an inland marina just off the River Irwell, and has great views out over the city’s towers. If this is your first time sampling what Seven Bro7hers Middlewood Locks have to offer, then let’s just say the drinks are equally impressive, with core brews like the celebrated Juicy IPA, Session, and Helles essentially offering fermented hoppy perfection in a glass (or can).
A large selection of specialist craft spirits are also stocked, many of which are made locally, while the wine list is bang up to scratch. Delicious, home cooked food is available, too, with the kitchen specialising in flatbread kebabs and burgers. Both are available with or without a pint, but chances are we can guess which you’ll be punting for. Dogs are welcome, just to seal the deal, and the address has an irregular events programme, so best check online for details of what might be on, and when, at this bonafide waterside favourite.
