“We are passionate about the great outdoors: our mission is to introduce people of all ages and backgrounds to adventurous activities in Greater Manchester and the North West.” For almost 15 years, Venture Out has been putting its money where its paddles and hiking boots are, leading people on activity days beneath the open sky. Based at a small HQ by the banks of the River Mersey in central Stockport, a programme of events and courses take people across the region, out to some of our most beloved beauty spots, the company catering to individuals, schools, colleges, youth and adult groups, families, and private organisations.

First founded by Ian Sheldrake under the name Messing About On the Mersey at Burnage Rugby Club back in 2009, the concept has stuck to the location but expanded significantly into what we see today. Now offering activities almost all year round, this includes day trips out to places such as the Peak District, Lancashire and Yorkshire, often utilising the expansive canal network that was once the area’s lifeblood. Although you can just as easily sign up for something at the Venture Out centre itself. For example, Bouldering on a dedicated wall big enough for 10 at a time, Archery, Cycling Games, and nearby Trail Rides.

Introduced in 2024, an additional climbing wall is also available, which can either be used in situ at Venture Out or relocated and moved to suitable grounds, if you have them. A Cave/Tunnel experience was also added around the same time, with a 40ft container transformed into a maze-like network of walkways waiting to be explored. And, of course, rafted canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and teamwork challenges are also offered on site or at a place of your choosing. Alternatively, learn bushcraft, circus skills, orienteering, forest & meadow games, and nature games & handicrafts.
