More new homes are in the pipeline for Manchester, this time in Ardwick.

Step Places and One Manchester have submitted plans for 16 new homes on the edge of the city. If planning is approved, these will be the first new homes in Ardwick Green for over 30 years.

The developers say this will be a sensitive new development aimed to enhance the diverse community and support its existing local businesses. They plan to deliver “a unique, vibrant, and sustainable neighbourhood”.

The scheme looks to be the first to come forward since Manchester City Council adopted the Ardwick Green neighbourhood development framework in 2021.The scheme proposes 16 three-bedroom homes that are aimed at urban dwellers who aren’t quite ready to retire to the suburbs but want that next step up from an apartment in town.

Overlooking the picturesque Ardwick Green Park and its neighbouring Grade II-listed St.Thomas Centre, the homes have been sensitively designed to complement the existing area. In these times of rising energy costs, it’s also good to know that each home will be fitted with an air source heat pump, MVHR system, and photovoltaic panels at the roof level in order to exceed building regulations energy and thermal fabric requirements.

Jamie Hanson, Director of Coda Architecture said, “Ardwick Green is an exciting area on the periphery of the city centre. There is a great opportunity to grow and improve the built environment and develop a better sense of place there. With the improvement of housing providing a variety of homes near to public green space it’s an area of the city that can be attractive to young families who want to be close to the city. Step Places have a real purpose to add value to an area with their schemes meeting the highest standards. It’s been a real pleasure working with them to deliver the planning application.”
