Launching this Saturday in Stockport’s historic old town, Emiko Studios will finally be available to shop in-store and in person as it swings open the doors of its new studio space on the Underbank.

The store, which is opening at 57 Great Underbank in the heart of the town’s booming independent neighbourhood, will feature a studio space where Emiko Studio’s seamstresses will hand craft its garments, as well as a space to shop its newest collections.

The brand was founded by owner, Coral who originally began making children’s clothing after realising a gap in the UK market after the birth of her daughter, Emi. Emi was born in Hong Kong, where Coral has drawn a lot of her inspiration from for the brand.

Coral also worked in Bangladesh, where she witnessed first hand the ugly side of fast fashion, so being naturally creative, when she returned to the UK she began making pieces using only sustainable fabrics, fairtrade factories and organic fibres

Since then, Emiko has branched out to cater for adults, too, creating bespoke collections influenced by workwear and Japanese minimalism. All of the brand’s garments are handmade here in Manchester, and soon customers will get the chance to get an exclusive look at Emiko Studio’s manufacturing processes.

The garments are made to last and hand down, driving a more circular economy when it comes to fashion. Fast fashion has created a shocking amount of waste, with extremely low prices making it very easy to throw away items, rather than reusing and recycling each piece.

Emiko Studios works toward creating garments with the off cuts of materials and any waste from prior collections. It also offers a scheme where it offers discount on future purchases if you return unwanted Emiko clothing.

Taking to Instagram, the store said: “Our store located at Great Underbank, Stockport, will act as a micro factory for our growing team of seamstresses and a retail unit open 6 days a week to the public.

“We will be having a soft opening to the public on the 30th July with our doors open to shop the collection and see the new space where our clothing is made.”

The store will open from 10am – 6pm this Saturday.
