Launched with the original purpose of explaining what residents think of innovative design, the Housing Design Awards got underway last week and Manchester’s property giant’s Capital and Centric came out on top.
Taking home the award for Building With Nature for its incredible, multipurpose Kampus design, Capital and Centric also bagged the top ‘Winner of Winners’ award for their many projects across the city.
Taking place every year for the past 72, the Housing Design Awards are judged by an exclusive panel of architects, designers, property developers and directors with the aim to showcase the outstanding work across the UK.
As well as pioneering schemes that impact and encourage healthy lifestyles, promote community and support everyday family life, this year’s Housing Design Awards winners include urgent responses to the housing shortage and fuel crisis, along with celebrations of the UK’s industrial heritage.
It’s been a long road for Kampus, but the venue has knocked it out of the park with its leisure and food offerings – creating an authentic neighbourhood in this once abandoned corner of Manchester.
The collection of old and new buildings offers a melting pot of architectural styles and expands on a rich cultural heritage, making use of historic buildings that have lain derelict for years, right next to the famous Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village and just minutes from Piccadilly Station.
With the likes of Nell’s, Yum Cha, Beeswing and Pollen now calling this corner of the city home, there’s still a huge number of units yet to be opened with Liverpool’s Madre, independent beer house, Cloudwater and Great North Pie Co all set to launch before the end of the year.
Alongside Manchester, many other cities took home awards for design across the evening, including buildings and venues in; Newcastle, London, Milton Keynes and Oxford. You can view the full list of winners below.
