What: Wood has been developed on the underground over the last 6 years since its enigmatic inception in 2004.
Located in the heart of Manchester’s chilly Northern Quarter on Oldham St., formerly home to the infamous Factory Records of course, Wood is one of the jewels of the NQ crown. Since opening its doors to the Republic of Mancunia over 6 years ago it can now also be found with its second store in Huddersfield as well as online, with some extra special exclusives only available at www.ashopcalledwood.com.
The store is a little, mint green gem stocking everything from heritage brands like Baracuta, Wrangler and Lyle & Scott to directional brands like The Hundreds and MHI by Maharishi. All of this side by side with the finest handpicked selection of vintage and collectable clothing, accessories and toys. Wood is consistently at the forefront of menswear, championing brands such as Barbour long before they saw the mass revival that they are enjoying today. Wood were also one of the key stores leading the UK’s menswear renaissance with brands such as YMC and Silas being stocked from the very first day Wood opened its doors to the lucky folk of Manchester. Wood’s distinctive take on clothing see’s it stock a unique set of brands such as the aforementioned as well as Garbstore, 10 Deep, Commune, Penfield, Sperry, Mishka, Nike, Nudie Jeans, Levi’s and Stussy to name but a few.
Wood has always been about championing original and directional clothing and accessories and in turn has some extra special working relationships with people in game, folk such as Kai & Sunny of Call of the Wild fame. Not only has Call of the Wild been stocked in the store since it opened but Kai & Sunny are part of the family at Wood and have lent a hand with design of the store and online store.
With its 2 stores and its online store, the next step for A Shop Called Wood is simple, the launch of its very own clothing line Cyrus Wood.
