This weekend sees Manchester CEntral play host to the Northern Fashion Week - but what can you expect?

Northern Fashion Week has been curated and produced by the team behind New Talent Fashion, aiming to provide an essential spotlight on opportunities in the North, as well as championing talent and developing northern industry.

Taking place from 4th – 9th July, Northern Fashion Week showcases the most talented individuals and game-changing organisations in the fashion, creative and media industries – as well as facilitating connections by creating an immersive environment for art, culture and heritage.

Working alongside various local university institutes and regional education providers, the NFW supports growth and development and looks to facilitate a sustainable future for the British fashion industry. From networking sessions to workshops, seminars, interactive stands and retail experiences, there’s everything you need if you’re in the fashion industry, or looking to get into it.

From Thursday 7th until Saturday 9th July, the Northern Fashion Week will take over Manchester Central with a programme of speakers, seminars and interactive talks, and we’ve picked just a few which may take your fancy…

Jane Shepherdson CBE is Chair of My wardrobe HQ, the UK’s foremost clothing rental platform. A retail industry expert, Director of the London Fashion Fund, ex CEO of Whistles and Topshop. Jane successfully ran Topshop from 1998 – 2007, before buying into Whistles where she remained CEO for 8 years. Since then she has become an ambassador for sustainable fashion brands, including Chair of rental platform MywardrobeHQ, and as a Director of The London Fashion Fund, which supports environmentally responsible fashion businesses. Jane has worked with Smartworks as a Patron, Trustee and volunteer dresser for 7 years.

 

Lucy Maguire: The Future of Fashion and the Retailer

Lucy Maguire is the Trends Editor at Vogue Business who has previously worked with the Vogue Global Network, Suzy Menkes and British Vogue. She has written for British Vogue, Vogue Paris, Vogue Italia, Vogue Russia and The Face and will be speaking on the future of fashion and the retailer.

‘Dressing for your Mind & Body’ // ‘Growing an Audience’

Friday 8th July, 3pm // Saturday 9th July, 3.15pm
Influencers Francesca Perks, Emma Tamsin, Holly Marston and Liv (SelfLoveLiv) host two sessions on Friday and Saturday beginning with ‘Dressing for your Mind & Body’ on Friday. Saturday sees them discuss ideas around how to grow an audience, dealing with hate comments (Holly vs. The Mirror and The Sun), navigate trends and how to build brands.

 

Designing For The Metaverse: Fashion’s Role In The Digital Frontier

Megan McCelland – Designing For The Metaverse: Fashion’s Role In The Digital Frontier. Fashion Journalist at GRAZIA Magazine, Bylines in Business of Home, Haute Living, The Psychology of Fashion, and other publications, Megan McCelland presents a talk on Designing For The Metaverse: Fashion’s Role In The Digital Frontier.

House of Suarez

Set up in 2006, House of Suarez has gone on to win multiple awards for its annual touring Vogue Ball that brings international artists to a costumed safe space extravaganza. The Ball looks at inclusion at its core and celebrates the culture of vogue. House of Suarez has been featured in the BBC iPlayer documentary Deep in Vogue (a film looking into the world of House of Suarez and its ongoing journey with its regional vogue ball), as well as being featured on Sky Arts on “Statues Redressed” and BBC 4 “Dance Passions”.

Throughout the three days, there’ll also be plenty of Manchester businesses offering up services and advice, including Secret Spa, the UK’s leading at-home beauty and wellness service who’ll be offering FREE hair styling and nail treatments, as well as the Northern Quarter’s LiveWell who will be offering Astrology readings, Tarot and 25% OFF all products on their stand.
