As you will all know by now – Mama Pacha the Peruvian pop-up is guesting in the kitchen at Sandinista. And as much as we love the food, we were pretty sad to wave goodbye to the classic Sandinista Friday tapas deal.

But it wasn’t goodbye after all- so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that they were giving the deal a Mama Pacha Peruvian make-over!

It is said that the first tapa was simply a hunk of bread which was placed over your glass to keep the flies out. Hence the word ‘tapas’ was born. Tapa literally meaning ‘cover’ or ‘lid’.

As the tradition developed, tapas became more of an elaborate event, with each region developing their own specialities. They were still ‘little dishes’ but the personalities of thousands of bar owners all over Spain have stamped them with the identities that they have today.

This tradition spread to South America too, where the Peruvians, Bolivians, Columbians, Brazilians like a little snack (or two) alongside their drink.

Sticking with the South American roots behind Mama Pacha, Sandinista has updated the original after-work deal. From 5 pm – 9 pm you can enjoy a Pisco Sour (the national drink of Peru) for £5 which will come with a range of delicious Peruvian tapas for you to wash it all down with.

Head on down to Sandinista every Friday between 5 pm and 9 pm to take advantage of the free tapas and Pisco Sour offer. This deal is available until the end of November – so get your fill before it’s too late!
