The second production to receive Arts Council funding at Manchester’s newest art hub, 53two – Amnesia, Ibiza… The Workshop of Forgetfulness projects the power of music, moments and the meeting of two souls all with the help of a live DJ.
The story sees 29 year old Kelly, a full-time Alzheimer’s care worker who knows all too well the importance of memory. She spends her days reminding others of who they are so when given the chance she indulges in the luxury of forgetting herself.
Amnesia is currently in its early stages of production and the aim is to push the boundaries of modern day theatre by fusing together theatrical values with Club Music Producers to create an immersive and unique experience.
53two is Manchester’s newest, biggest and most versatile arts venue. Managed by Manchester Actors’ Platform it spans two of Deansgate’s famous tunnels. The venue operates primarily as a theatre with a main house of 150 and studio space of 50, with the rooms also offering availability for exhibitions, gigs, events, celebrations, rehearsals, classes, conferences, banquets, weddings and more.
53two is operated as a charity and once running costs have been met, actors and creatives paid, profit will be held in a ‘pot’. At regular intervals, the sum or portions thereof will be donated to upcoming artists, actors and/or musicians as a bursary to train, record or develop their work.
Amnesia will arrive at 53two on Thursday 22nd June and will run until the 24th. Tickets are available here.
