This December, Manchester creative agency The Neighbourhood is taking imaginative gift giving to a new height, and displaying the city’s most extravagant ideas on an 18m x 2.5m billboard on 24 Lever Street’s rooftop, as part of the building’s annual festive community project in aid of children’s charity Wood Street Mission.

www.typeofxmas.com invites extravagant, beautiful, inventive and heartfelt gift suggestions from one and all of its Northern Quarter friends and neighbours, and for 24 days will handpick the most inspiring to broadcast from the rooftops.

The aim is to build community spirit, whilst raising awareness and donations for the Wood Street Mission’s appeal, Christmas Should Be About More Than Survival, a festive project that distributes toys and food to over 2000 struggling families unable to afford presents for their children.

Each day, top Manchester artists, including the likes of Stanley Chow and Kim Thompson, will illustrate their interpretation of that day’s chosen gift or message. Photography of each day’s message and its illustration will also be posted on www.typeofxmas.com, and the @typeofxmas Twitter and Instagram, meaning the campaign could make it round the world faster than…. well, you know who…

Each day, The Neighbourhood will be donating a gift to the appeal, and encouraging their local businesses and residents to do the same by leaving a gift under 24 Lever Street’s Christmas tree to be passed on to the appeal.

The Neighbourhood’s Creative Director and Founder, Jon Humphreys, said: “Typeofxmas.com has already been inundated with hundreds of hugely inventive suggestions, ranging from pet unicorns to marriage proposals, so it’s possible some may be more achievable than others…

“Our main aim is to creatively connect with community, whilst helping to make Christmas a little brighter for some of the families in Manchester that are most in need, so we’re looking forward to meeting new friends and neighbours as they come in to donate.”

If you’d like to donate too, please contact Sophie Bell by emailing sophie@woodstreetmission.org.uk directly, before December 15th to give the team time to distribute your gift.

The typeofxmas.com campaign is live now, running to the 24th of December.
