Signature Dish: Broccoli, Chilli & Sausage Pizza at Slice

The secret to good pizza isn't just as simple as throwing some tomato puree on some dough, lobbing cheese on there and blasting it in the oven. It's an art form, and something that many people and places struggle to master.

We’re pretty fortunate here in Manchester however, as a rather exciting renaissance in the art of pizza continues to create many new and excellent options available in the city (and beyond).

One such option is the fantastic Slice on Stevenson Square and as part of our Signature Dish series, we went down to check out their classic Broccoli, Chilli and Sausage Pizza.

Baked fresh every day, Slice specialises not only in pizza but also some tasty breads, sandwiches, arancini and gallons of gelato in every flavour imaginable. Their Sausage, Broccoli, Chilli and Sausage pizza is always a presence on the menu though, come rain or shine and is definitely something everyone should try if you find yourself in there.

I met up owner Matt McGuirk and we went through the process of creating this delectable dish. From shaping and proofing the dough, right up to the authentic Italian toppings and the cooking.

As someone who’s only experience of cooking pizzas is bunging a Chicago Town in the oven, I thought I did pretty well, and Matt was rather impressed also. If it doesn’t work out with this writing malarkey, Matt can expect a CV through his door for sure.

Now that Summer is approaching I can’t really express how much of a no-brainer it is to head on down to Slice, grab a cold Moretti and a few slices and watch the world go by on their terrace. It’s a winner.
