Returning between 8th September – 15th October 2019, SICK! Festival aims to empower diverse communities to confront the physical, mental and social challenges that we face in our individual and collective lives through their outstanding international arts programme.

Weaving in perspectives from research, clinical practitioners, public health professionals, charities and those with lived experience of issues addressed – culminating in a high-profile, biennial international festival.

Themes are explored through many art forms – dance, theatre, public installation – and through lectures and debates. The issues examined are intrinsically difficult: sexuality, identity, mental illness, ageing, death – the very stuff of being human. They are also deeply personal and often kept away from public debate, which is something SICK! Festival aims to change.

Kicking off this year’s festival, a four-day programme of performance and conversation explores the question ‘What is the value of human life?’ through the lives, voices and art of people living with a disability.

Delivered in partnership with The Lowry, the festival features performances from Candoco, Paraorchestra, Lisa Hammond & Rachel Spence, Laurence Clarke and Ursula Martinez.

What’s more, SICK! Festival has introduced a ‘pay between scheme’ for all the shows for the entire festival. This means that you can pay anywhere between £5 and £15 for each show which makes it the most accessible arts festival in the whole of the UK.

There are lots of exciting things still to be confirmed and announced, but you can find details of Week One’s shows using the link below which will work around the theme of Disability.
