With over 23 years of experience as an innovator and restless proponent of forward-thinking music, the legendary Justin Robertson is next to grace the Electrik ‘One Deck’.
Over the years, Electrik has hosted its One Deck event, which has witnessed some big names turn up to its doors with a trunk full of their favourite records. It’s different to your usual club night or DJ set, in that there’s no mixing, headphones, scratching or beat juggling – it’s strictly about delving into the personal music collections of whoever takes to the deck.
One Deck aims to evoke a deep discourse about the influence of the music that’s being played, and to create a conversation between the DJ and their listeners. The concept has seen the likes of the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, spin his favourite sounds, as well as Maxine Peak, John Simm, Mr Scruff and now, Justin Robertson.
The rich history of Robertson is matched only by his relentless need to keep pushing forward. As a result, he remains one of the most relevant and exciting DJs and music producers around.
Having re-worked tracks for the likes of Erasure, Bjork, Happy Mondays, New Order and Talk Talk – to name a few – his own productions have also taken centre stage. Robertson’s songs have scored several top 40 spots and landed him an appearance on Top of The Pops with his genre-defying, Lionrock.
Touring with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, the Cocteau Twins and Death In Vegas, Lionrock, a British big beat group, became one of the bands that defined the growing confidence of dance music and propelled its potential to flourish into many fascinating hybrids.
Most recently, Robertson has been back in the studio to work on exciting new music with Brix Smith, as well as to complete his first novel, ‘The Tangled’. He has also created an incredible body of visual art, which has been exhibited up and down the country.
As an independent café bar, Electrik is nestled in suburban Chorlton, offering high quality food, drink and service in intimate and down to earth surroundings. With an impressive selection of beers and ales from across the globe on draught, cask and in bottles and cans, there is also an extensive wine list, a perfectly formed spirit selection, plus an ever-changing cocktail menu that includes all the classics.
The food menu is headed up by Four Side Vegan Pizza and their mouth-watering take on a classic Detroit style pizza – with sides to match.
