A few weeks back a few of the Finest gang went down to Banyan on Spinningfields to try their Bottomless Brunch effort and if I’m being honest – we can’t really remember much!

The Banyan on Spinningfields is a relatively new addition to the area, opening towards the tail end of last year, just before the behemoth Ivy opened its doors directly opposite.

I suppose there’s a high chance that Banyan will feel a little bit ignored at times, being next to such a high profile (and huge) venue such as The Ivy – which is a shame really because their Bottomless Brunch offering is actually rather excellent.

In a market that’s saturated with bottomless brunch offerings it’s vital that venues try to stand out from the crowd, be it with the food, the drinks on offer, price or even with some form of entertainment or gimmick.

With the Bottomless option at Banyan you get a choice of 4 dishes alongside bottomless drinks for £26.95 per person. On offer in terms of bevvies is the obligatory glass of Prosecco, Bloody Mary, pint of Coors, Aperol Spritz or the legendary Garibaldi (Campari and orange juice).

The thing that sets Banyan apart from its competitors though is that when you’re drinking bottomless you get TWO drinks at a time – while your glass of prosecco is constantly being topped up you can enjoy one of the other options at the same time – and I was certainly enjoying the prosecco and Aperol Spritz combo (a little too much).

So how was the food? Well, as I said you get the choice of 4 dishes, with a further 6 available with the ‘Deluxe’ option for an extra £5. We stuck to the traditional choices and went for the Breakfast Hash, Smashed Avocado & Poached Eggs and the Eggs Royale.

Always a brunch classic, the Smashed Avocado & Poached Eggs was exactly what it should be, a wedge of toast topped with a healthy portion of avocado, two perfectly poached eggs and a topping of watercress. You can’t go wrong really!

Similarly, the Eggs Royale came topped with a healthy dose of some brilliant Scottish Smoked Salmon and a creamy homemade hollandaise that brought the whole thing together.

It’s all about the Breakfast Hash though – a dish that I devoured almost too quickly and am still thinking about to this day.

It’s everything you want from a brunch dish and more, with a huge portion of sautéed bacon, chorizo, sweet potatoes and avocado, all topped with a couple of poached eggs and a final flourish of spicy Sriracha.

It was excellent and certainly something that is a ‘must-order’ when brunching in Banyan on a weekend. Paired up with a glass of prosecco alongside a cocktail – you’re living the life.

I should also make you aware that Banyan also offer a brilliant Bottomless Roast Dinner every Sunday for £31.95pp. You can’t go wrong there either.
