In the run up to Halloween, which falls next Monday, Manchester is hosting a huge line-up of frighteningly fun events from fancy dress parties to pumpkin workshops, bottomless brunches and more! 

However, if you’re looking for an alternative way to spend Halloween, or if you’re just looking to fill your diary with something a little different this week – you’ve come to the right place!

There’s a brand-new music magazine launch at The Whitworth this weekend, as well as an exhibition at Saan1 in Northern Quarter from artist, FNTSYWRLD. They Come in Threes at Saan1

Exhibiting at the new three-storey art space, Saan1 Manchester on Kelvin Street, They Come in Threes is the debut solo exhibition by artist, FNTSYWRLD aka Ben van de Wouw. The bottom floor of the exhibition showcases a number of acrylic paintings Ben produced to raise money and awareness for the homeless community in Manchester. The first floor explores paintings born out of Ben’s struggle with his mental health, and the second floor exhibition explores the male gaze through grayscale pencil illustrations.

Things Hidden Since The Foundation Of The World at HOME

In 1992 Iranian popstar and refugee Fereydoun Farrokhzad was found brutally murdered.  The case was never solved.  This new work by Javaad Alipoor explores violence, digital culture and the post-colonial world. An investigation into this iconic murder and an investigation into the nature of investigation. In a world of murder mystery podcasts, Wikipedia and an Internet that presents everything in the world as knowable we need to understand that some worlds never collide. 

Let The Right One In at The Royal Exchange

Venture Arts Launch at The Whitworth

Venture Arts is proud to launch a series of limited-edition prints this week at The Whitworth. This stunning collection of prints has been created by Venture Arts artists, Darren Bates, Michael Beard, Amy Ellison, Barry Finan, Andrew Johnstone, Ahmed Mohammed and Leslie Thompson. The organisation supports people with learning disabilities to reach their full potential through visual arts and culture. Its vision is a world in which people with learning disabilities are empowered, celebrated, included and valued in the arts, culture and society.

Pumpkin Flower Arrangement Workshop at Northern Flower

Taking place from 6pm – 8pm on Thursday, this Halloween-themed workshop will see guests carve their very own pumpkin that will then be filled with a beautiful bouquet of Autumnal flowers (both fresh and dried). All tools and materials will be provided by Northern Flower, including the pumpkin. No experience necessary, just a warm jumper and the desire to get stuck in!

The Lowry Hotel has announced a new monthly live music series – ‘The Lowry Life Nights’ with a whole host of DJs, local live acts and specially curated cocktails. The free-to-attend event series will kick off this Friday from 6pm – 11pm in celebration of the 80s and 90s, with club classics, a bespoke retro cocktail menu and a touch of nostalgia.

Created by global majority and marginalised communities, the magazine was born in 2021 with a bold anti-racist manifesto. Founded to counter the London-centric narrative that often dominates music journalism, SEEN magazine aims to celebrate unheard voices, allowing communities to narrate their own stories and heritage, while connecting with global scenes linked to Britain’s colonial history.
