From Manchester to... The Tawny Hotel, Staffordshire

What's in Stoke-on-Trent, I hear you ask?

Well, the first thing that might come to your head is Alton Towers, but there’s so much more to the area, including a stunning countryside, that ranges from towering gritstone crags of the Peak District, to unspoilt heathland, and leafy woodlands of the National Forest.

It’s here, in the beauty of the Staffordshire countryside where you’ll find a hidden hotel, one that blends tradition with elegance and charm.

The Tawny estate is set on 70 acres of carefully pruned countryside set on a lakeside, and bordering the Consall Nature Park, a conservation area and nature reserve featuring over 700 acres of woodland, heath and moor.

The Tawny Hotel itself is a mixture of wildwood huts, treehouses, and beautiful boathouses. In addition, you’ll find an outstanding restaurant – The Plumicorn, amazing guest facilities and a heated outdoor pool, all set in the surrounding woodland and secluded green space.

The moment you arrive on the estate, there’s so much for you to do and explore – made all the easier with the cute bumpy golf carts that you can drive everywhere. Or perhaps instead you’d just like to borrow some wellies and take a walk around and explore? The estate is yours for your stay and it’d be criminal to miss it.

You may find it difficult though, as the rooms and facilities are truly world-class, managing to look even better than they do in their Instagram shots!

Each of the 55 rooms, spread out between Shepherds Huts, Treehouses, Boathouses and Retreats, is entirely unique in its design, and finished to the highest of standards. All provide complimentary minibars, WiFi, televisions, yoga mats and best of all – an outdoor spa bathtub, set on a private deck that’s perfect for stargazing.

Open the complimentary mini bar to enjoy a local brew, fill the bathtub, press on the bubbles, pop on a fluffy robe and unwind whilst being close to nature.

There’s also something quite liberating about a heated pool set in the beautiful countryside on a lovely crisp day.

Take lunch in the Plumicorn restaurant, which is overseen by Chris Alexander. Or The Feather Lounge is the second dining space, and offers a shorter bar menu with an array of drinks and impressive views of the gardens and landscape ahead.

Chic Lobster Tail

The tapas-style eating is excellent for lunchtime fuel, but a special shout out to the evening Chic Lobster Tail (£38) and the sublime ‘Fallen Apple’ dessert (£13) – both of which blew me away.

The team were fantastic; there’s room for our furry friends, it’s great for a romantic break or a weekend with friends. I can see why The Tawny Hotel was voted in The Sunday Times’ 100 Best British Hotels. It is a hotel like no other.
