On Friday 18th March, LA-based artist Kenny Dickenson will join NAM for a very special live performance of his score to French-Vietnamese artist Mai Hua’s 2020 documentary film Les Rivières.
Taking six years to make, Mai’s film chronicles her experience of bringing back her dying grandmother Marthe to France, bringing together four generations of women from the same family and documenting their intimate stories, questions, curses and miracles. Kenny’s score accompanies this compelling journey of beauty, brokenness and rebirth.
If you enjoy minimal, intimate piano of the likes of Nils Frahm or John Carroll Kirby’s solo work, you’re certain to fall for this beautiful album.
The whole score is built around delicate, sparkling piano motifs, and at times they’re joined by cello and complemented with ambient chords and other flourishes. Kenny will be in Manchester for one night only to perform a live rendition of the intimate soundtrack, before landing in London to perform at Spiritland.
The release also marks Manchester label Be With Records’ 100th release, so none other than founder, Rob Butler, will be warming up the evening with some beautiful ambient and simpatico sounds before Kenny takes the reins.
