School Disco, a vintage fashion business based in Chorlton, is looking to help people affordably breathe new life into their wardrobes with its city-wide clothes swap taking place over the next few months.

Hosted at various venues across Manchester, the clothes swap pop-up is a direct response to the current cost of living crisis.

The events are becoming increasingly popular among people looking for alternative, more affordable ways to shop as they’re the perfect place to declutter whilst also discovering something new.

Speaking of the event, School Disco said: “I think the swap is so important right now as it’s promoting a few things that have fast been depleting since the lock downs and the cost of living crisis; sociability, sustainability and fun.

“The swap is as important to me as it was when it started 7 years ago, and now we’ve spent every event tweaking and improving the system, it’s accessible to absolutely everyone.”

The way the clothes swap works is pretty simple. All you have to do is bring along the items you’re wanting to swap, pay a small fee to cover the cost of cleaning / service fees, and you’ll leave with a wonderfully refreshed wardrobe that’s also kind to the planet.

It works on a points based system. For example if you bring along a coat, it might get you 10 points, which is £10 to spend on the swap rails.

All of the points are then recorded on your personal swap card, and if you have any points left over at the end, you can save this for any of School Disco’s future clothes swap events.

On top of this, School Disco doesn’t accept clothing based on taste. If it can’t be sold after in the brand’s own vintage collection or at another swap, it goes to the Women’s refuge.

The first Manchester clothes swap will take place on Sunday 13th November at Doll Parts in Afflecks. This will then be followed by a sale at Society food hall (27th November), Bediddy in Chorlton (3rd December), Bernie’s Grocery Store in Altrincham (17th December) and Cop Lane Coffee in Preston in the new year.

Tickets for the events are available to buy now via the ‘events’ tab on School Disco’s instagram.
