Ancoats Pop-Up recently announced that they would be moving from their current location on Radium Street right into the heart of Ancoats in Cutting Room Square, going from 11 stalls to more than 30!
This new prime real estate gives them the opportunity to offer a much wider range of goods, crafts, food, arts and more – and this Sunday 12th September is their first foray into the square. So, here’s a sneak peek into what you should expect when you pop down on Sunday. It’s open from 11am – 4pm.
Art & Prints
If you’re looking to brighten up your house, there’s set to be an eclectic range of artists and art prints on offer at Cutting Room Square, including hand-printed collagraphs and linocuts from Little Lion Studio, and some gorgeous prints from Manchester illustrator Alex Berry, whose work focuses on streetwear and botanicals.
Also offering up “sassy prints, stickers, bags and more” is Design by Emma, and finally (and perhaps the best) is Akinyemi Oludele who will be doing LIVE portraits on the day! He’s been making art in the city for over 20 years, and has completed numerous commissions in portraiture and graphic design including a commissioned painting for Black History Month and has captured numerous live events.
This Sunday he’ll be drawing YOU – so if you fancy getting a mint piece of art, of yourself, perhaps to blow up and pin to your wall in the front room – Akinyemi’s your man.
Homeware
With a diverse range of creatives and makers heading down, there’s a pretty impressive selection of homewares and ceramics on offer, as well as a dedicated Plant Shop – a first for Ancoats Pop-up!
First up is Juno Ruby who makes macrame, (which I only just discovered myself) which is a form of textile produced using knotting techniques – usually done to make wall hangings or those lovely plant hangers. She’ll be joined by Anie Studio, offering up consciously crafted homewares and ceramics made with the minimum of waste right here in Manchester.
The Sculpts will also be making an appearance, with a range of Manchester-themed gifts and cards, while Na-Be Ceramics will be offering up handmade, small batch, functional ceramics; think teapots, bowls, cups and more.
To complete the home offering will be Plant Shop Manchester with everything from plants that thrive in low light situations to homes with pets; you’ll be able to find your perfect plant here for sure.
Food & Drink
Now we’re talking! One of the best things about the Ancoats Pop-up has always been the impressive selection of food and drinks vendors, and now that they’ve moved to Cutting Room Square – this tradition continues.
I’m delighted to say that Pop-up veterans Root2Ginger will be there, serving up their mega organic ginger shots, as will Juice Vibes 2 You with their 100% natural fruit and vegetable juices. They’ll be appearing alongside Hatch regulars and bloody lovely people Biscuit and Brew – whose sweet treats will be the highlight of your day.
Many people have proclaimed Paradiso’s tiramisu the greatest in the city, and we’re inclined to agree with them – especially once they bring out the Biscoff one! Cake Bar Co will also be there, with all of your favourite cakes, just in handy bar form (so you can fit more in your pockets)!
The Flat Baker will be offering up a selection of Brazilian Street Food delights, including those little cheesy dough balls – Pão de Queijo – the country’s most popular street food snack, while The Cole Men will be bringing their artisan chilli hot sauces – so you can dip ’em in there.
Finally, Vegan Picnic Basket will be there with 100% vegan versions of all of your picnic favourites, including Pork Pies (Pork Lie), Scotch Eggs, Bakewell Tarts and even Quiche.
Pets & Books
These two vendors don’t really fit into a category so they’ve got their own, one is The Dog Cake Company who, just like Ronseal, do exactly what you’d expect – make cakes for your dog.
While Catalog Books is Manchester’s only mobile bookshop, usually located down on Oxford Road, he’ll be cycling his wares down to Ancoats for the day on Sunday and showcasing his unique collection of books, zines and stationary.
Health & Beauty
Perfect if you’re looking to pamper yourself, or a great idea for a present for your mate, the new Ancoats Pop-up will be home to a few health and beauty stalls, such as pop-up veterans Hedonistic Self Care offering up a range of skin care, scents, candles and more that will hopefully help you feel much better after a particularly messy night out.
Also making an appearance will be Love From Deda and their organic skin and hair products that are handmade, vegan and 100% cruelty free, alongside Lovon Lash – DIY lash extensions that you can apply yourself at home and last for days.
Fashion & Clothing
With a bigger venue comes more space, meaning the new pop-up can host more clothing stalls, such as The Fruit Moth’s handmade 60s floral pieces, as well as Twisted Sister Vintage and children’s clothing from By Rue.
The Fruit Moth
Brazen will be selling her polymer clay jewelry, alongside Loveli and ROSEATE whose colourful Y2K pieces will make you feel like your 15 again. Luciola Creations will also be at the market – a woman who specialises in personalised metalwork jewellery including bracelets and earrings.
